Guwahati: Assam Royal Global University commemorated National Handloom Day 2026, celebrating India’s rich handloom heritage, traditional craftsmanship and the cultural importance of handwoven textiles.

The programme was organised by the Royal School of Fashion Design & Technology in association with IIC-EC. The event brought together experts from the fashion and design sector to discuss the importance of preserving India’s handloom traditions while encouraging innovation and sustainable practices.

The distinguished panel included Robert Naorem, Indian fashion entrepreneur and designer; Anoushka Das, Founder and CEO of Studio Anurupa Pvt. Ltd. and Founder of Anushka Annasuya; Barsha Sharma, Founder of Ezaar Collective LLP; and Jayanta Dev Sarma, Consultant, Government of Assam.

The celebration highlighted the continuing relevance of handloom in contemporary fashion and design. It also focused on the need to protect traditional skills and craftsmanship while creating new opportunities through modern design and sustainable practices.

The university said the event reflected its commitment to promoting India’s handloom legacy and encouraging young designers to explore the connection between tradition, creativity and innovation.
