Diphu : The flood situation across Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts remains critical today following days of relentless heavy downpours.

Mounting water pressure in the reservoir forced authorities to open the spillway gates of the Karbi Langpi Hydroelectric Project, sending calibrated surges downstream and triggering urgent flood alerts for surrounding settlements.

The release, combined with overflowing major rivers such as the Kopili and Jamuna, has inundated thousands of hectares of farmland and submerged dozens of rural communities. In the regional hub of Dolamara, severe localized inundation has left the town center underwater and cut off numerous adjacent villages.

The Dongkamukam revenue circle has emerged as the hardest-hit zone in West Karbi Anglong. Localities including Kheroni, Sildubi, Lalmati, and Hongkram face extensive damage to residential properties and agricultural fields.

Flash floods surging down the deforested hillsides have worsened conditions, flooding residential sectors near the Kaziranga and Kohora ecological belts.Local road connectivity is broken across several stretches as floodwaters wash over vital transit lines.

District emergency personnel continue to monitor river levels while conducting relief operations in affected pockets.
