Kolkata: Dr. Monali Longmailai, Assistant Professor in the Department of Linguistics at Assam University, Silchar, was an invited speaker at an international conference organised by Jadavpur University in Kolkata.
Dr. Longmailai delivered a talk titled “Digitising Oral Narratives towards Language Development: A Case Study on Dimasa” at the one-day International Conference on ‘Language, Mind and Society’, organised by the School of Languages and Linguistics, Jadavpur University, on August 8, 2026.

Other invited speakers at the conference included Dr. Leknath Sharma Pathak of Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, and Dr. Giampaolo Poletti of the Italian Embassy, New Delhi.
Ahead of the conference, Dr. Longmailai also conducted a pre-conference workshop on “Creating a Digital Archive for Under-Documented Languages using Mukurtu CMS” on August 7.

Her participation highlighted the growing role of digital technology in language documentation, preservation and development, particularly for indigenous and under-documented languages such as Dimasa.
