KRC TIMES Barak Valley Bureau

Sribhumi | Police recovered 15 live rounds of ammunition during an operation in Assam’s Sribhumi district on Friday, a day ahead of Independence Day, prompting heightened security concerns in the area.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at a mobile accessories shop and detained a youth identified as Nasel Ahmed. According to police sources, the operation led to the recovery of 15 live rounds of 7.5 mm pistol ammunition from Ahmed.

Ahmed, son of Farid Ali and a resident of Biskut village in Sribhumi district, was taken into custody for questioning, police said. Investigators are now working to establish the source of the ammunition, the intended purpose for which it was allegedly procured and whether other individuals are linked to the case.

The seizure comes as security agencies across Assam remain on heightened alert ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the recovery and ascertain whether the ammunition was part of a wider network or criminal activity.
