AGARTALA | The Tripura government has set a target of creating 3.5 lakh “Lakhpati Didis” in the state by the financial year 2028-29 by bringing together various government schemes and livelihood programmes.

The roadmap was discussed at a State Level Lakhpati Didi Steering Committee meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of Rural Development Department Secretary Abhishek Singh.

The meeting was attended by Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma, senior officials of the mission and representatives from several government departments.

During the quarterly meeting, officials reviewed the progress of the Lakhpati Didi initiative and discussed measures to expand the programme and strengthen its implementation across the state.

Singh outlined the roadmap for achieving the 3.5 lakh target by 2028-29 and stressed the need for greater coordination and convergence among different government schemes.

The initiative focuses on improving livelihood opportunities for women associated with rural self-help groups and enabling them to increase their household incomes through diversified economic activities.

Under the Lakhpati Didi initiative, women members of rural self-help groups are sought to be supported in achieving a sustainable annual household income of at least Rs 1 lakh through livelihood diversification and convergence of government interventions.

Officials at the meeting also discussed strategies to expand income-generation opportunities and strengthen institutional support for women involved in self-help groups.

The government aims to use existing welfare and livelihood programmes in a coordinated manner to help more women access financial, technical and institutional support and move towards sustainable household incomes.

The state-level committee will continue to monitor the progress of the initiative and work on measures to ensure that the benefits of the programme reach a larger number of women across Tripura.
