IMPHAL | Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday briefed BJP leaders and workers in Imphal on his recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the postponement of Census operations in the state, while appealing to people to refrain from bandhs and general strikes.

Singh attended a reception programme at the BJP state office, Thambal Sanglen, following his return from New Delhi. He was welcomed by BJP state president A. Sharda Devi, MLAs, senior party leaders and party workers. The Chief Minister briefed the gathering on the discussions he had with Shah concerning the postponement of the Census in Manipur.

Singh said the BJP’s central leadership was aware of the sentiments, aspirations and concerns of the people of the state. He cited the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Manipur as an example of the Centre’s understanding of the state’s concerns.

He said the state government was committed to restoring peace, normalcy and stability and called for collective efforts from all sections of society and stakeholders to achieve lasting peace. The Chief Minister also highlighted the reopening of national highway connectivity, saying inter-state movement had resumed and travel had become safer and more affordable for the people.

Appealing for cooperation, Singh urged people and organisations to refrain from imposing bandhs and general strikes, saying such disruptions affect normal life and adversely impact the livelihoods of ordinary citizens. He stressed the need for all stakeholders to work together to consolidate the return of normalcy and ensure that the people of Manipur are able to resume their daily activities without disruption.
