Shillong: Normalcy has returned to Shillong and East Khasi Hills following talks with the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), with security forces deployed in the city now withdrawn.

East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal said the security situation in Shillong and the district is currently “completely normal”. He said the withdrawal of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel reflects the improvement in the situation.

“The situation is completely normal. The CAPF and RAF have been withdrawn,” Baranwal said.

The development follows discussions with the Khasi Students’ Union, after which the authorities assessed that the situation had stabilised sufficiently to withdraw the additional security deployment.

The withdrawal marks a return to normal security arrangements in Shillong and surrounding areas of East Khasi Hills.
