Silchar: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Assam University, Silchar, in collaboration with the Assam University Research Scholars’ Forum (AURSF), organised the HER VOICE WIN Initiative at the Bipin Chandra Pal Seminar Hall on Monday.

The programme aimed to celebrate women’s voices, journeys, knowledge, leadership and contributions to society while promoting dialogue on women’s role in higher education and student well-being.

The inaugural session was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of Assam University. AURSF president Jwangsa Basumatary delivered the welcome address.

Two scholarly talks were held during the programme. Prof. Yashmin Choudhury of the Department of Biotechnology spoke on the changing role of women in higher education, focusing on women as knowledge producers and institutional leaders.

Prof. Aparajita De of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences spoke on women as knowledge bearers, highlighting indigenous knowledge, cultural memory and sustainable development. The sessions were chaired by Prof. Piyush Pandey.

A free mental health counselling session was also organised for students and research scholars. The session was conducted by consultant psychologist Raisha Mazumder. Fifteen counselling slots were offered through prior registration.

An article writing competition on the theme “Self Journey of Women” was also organised as part of the initiative.

The programme brought together faculty members, research scholars and students, combining academic discussions, creative expression and mental health awareness. It concluded with a vote of thanks by AURSF general secretary Bishal Sonar.

The organisers said the initiative sought to create a more inclusive academic space where women’s experiences and knowledge are recognised and their voices are encouraged.
