IMPHAL | Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan arrived in Manipur on Tuesday as part of his four-day tour of the Northeast and visited the Indian National Army (INA) Museum and War Memorial at Moirang.

Radhakrishnan was received at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport around 10.30 am by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh. An Indian Reserve Battalion contingent accorded him a Guard of Honour.

The Vice-President then travelled to Moirang, about 45 km from Imphal, where he visited the INA Museum and the War Memorial. His itinerary in Manipur also includes a visit to Sainik School Imphal at Pangei in Imphal East district, where he is scheduled to participate in cultural and public engagements.

Security has been tightened across the State, particularly around the venues included in his itinerary. Traffic arrangements have also been modified in parts of Moirang in view of the visit.

Radhakrishnan will later leave for Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh, the final destination of his four-day Northeast tour. He is scheduled to attend a special session of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly and visit the Assembly Gallery-cum-Museum.

The Vice-President’s Office shared photographs of his arrival in Imphal on social media, saying he was received by the Governor, Chief Minister and other dignitaries before being accorded the Guard of Honour.

Radhakrishnan began his Northeast tour in Assam, where he attended the golden jubilee celebrations of Geetanagar College and the convocation ceremony of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences in Guwahati.

On Monday, he attended a foundation stone-laying programme for infrastructure projects at Gauhati University before travelling to Shillong, where he participated in a public reception and cultural programme at the Soso Tham Auditorium. The Manipur visit marks the third leg of the Vice-President’s Northeast tour, which will conclude in Arunachal Pradesh.
