Imphal: The indefinite hunger strike by PhD scholars of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU), demanding the release of their pending stipends, entered its fourth day on Friday, with the health condition of several protesting scholars reportedly deteriorating.

The scholars began the indefinite hunger strike on September 9 with the support of the Dhanamanjuri Students Union (2025–2026). They have been demanding immediate intervention from the university authorities and the state government over the alleged delay in disbursal of their stipends.

The protesting scholars have urged the authorities to take immediate steps to clear their pending stipends, stating that the continued delay has caused serious difficulties for the affected research scholars.

Despite the ongoing protest, the scholars have continued their hunger strike, seeking a concrete assurance from the concerned authorities regarding the release of their dues.
