Silchar: A free cataract detection and eye check-up camp was organised at Ghoniala Junior Basic School on Sunday by the Ghoniala Sub-Committee of Youths Against Social Evils (YASE) in collaboration with Prabhabati Debi Charitable Trust.

A total of 104 patients underwent eye examinations during the camp. Dr Aayushi Shah and optometrist Titash G. Choudhury conducted the examinations, with 34 patients found to have serious cataract-related problems.

According to Trust Camp Manager Debojyoti Das, the identified patients will undergo cataract operations free of cost at Choudhury Eye Hospital, Silchar, within a week, according to the dates provided to them.

YASE camp in-charge Advocate Kawshar Ahmed Laskar led the camp, assisted by Sabil Ahmed, Jesmine Begum Majumder, Maklishur Rahman Laskar, Gautam Das, Ahad Hussain Barbhuiya, Abdul Matin Khan, Ahadul Ahmed Laskar, Prosonno Das, Fagun Ruhidas, Anwarul Haque Khan, Jaminur Rahman Laskar, Raju Banik, Suraj Das and others.

Rojob Laskar, Ranbir Singh, Sanjeev Roy and several others were also present. Camp Coordinator Bandita Trivedi Roy thanked the school authorities and residents of Ghoniala for their cooperation and support in making the camp successful.

She said YASE was continuing its efforts under its “Zero Cataract Mission”, adding that the successful camp marked another step towards the organisation’s goal of reducing cataract-related blindness.
