IMPHAL: A Tangkhul Naga student body and a civil-society group in Manipur have urged the Centre and the state government to take urgent steps to ensure the safety and security of Naga civilians living in vulnerable areas along the Indo-Myanmar border.
The groups warned that continued neglect of people residing in the remote border areas could leave them vulnerable and force them to seek assistance from neighbouring countries, including China.
They stressed the need for immediate government intervention to address the security concerns and difficulties faced by civilians living along the international border.
The organisations also called for greater attention to the border population, saying that ensuring their safety and welfare was important for maintaining confidence among communities living in the sensitive frontier areas.
The appeal comes amid concerns over the security and humanitarian situation in areas bordering Myanmar, where several Naga settlements are located.
