Patient Dies After Ambulance Was Halted During CM’s Convoy Movement in Silchar

SILCHAR: A patient travelling in an ambulance that was reportedly halted to make way for Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s convoy in Silchar on Wednesday died at Silchar Medical College and Hospital on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Rasoraj Chakraborty. According to reports, the ambulance carrying Chakraborty was stopped during the Chief Minister’s visit to the city.

Following the incident, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma apologised to the patient’s family and termed the stoppage unacceptable. He also ordered an inquiry into the incident and directed officials to take action against those responsible.

Four police personnel deployed in the area were subsequently suspended in connection with the incident.

The incident has raised concerns over the handling of emergency vehicles during VIP convoy movements.
