SHILLONG: Four Meghalaya Police personnel were suspended following allegations of illegal collection of money from heavy vehicles at temporary check posts in East Khasi Hills district. A senior police officer was also transferred in connection with the allegations.

Police said a departmental inquiry has been ordered and further verification is underway to establish the facts. The action came after allegations surfaced regarding demands for money from drivers of heavy vehicles at the temporary check posts.

The police have urged drivers and vehicle operators to report any such demand for money to the authorities. Officials said appropriate action would be taken based on the findings of the departmental inquiry.
