33rd Silchar Book Fair to Be Held from December 14 to 25

SILCHAR: The 33rd Silchar Book Fair-2026 will be held from December 14 to 25, it was decided at an important meeting of the organising committee held at the residence of Bhasha Senani Paritosh Pal Choudhury at Subhash Nagar in Silchar on Sunday.

The meeting was chaired by noted journalist and book fair committee chairman Haran Dey. Members unanimously decided to organise the annual book fair over 12 days and also formed the new organising committee for the 33rd edition.

Under the new committee, Haran Dey will continue as chairman, while Subir Bhattacharjee, Shankar Das and Shankar Dey will serve as vice-chairmen. Biplab Pal Choudhury has been appointed general secretary-cum-treasurer, with Gautam Talukdar as joint secretary.

Pradip Chandra Das and Bahar Uddin Chowdhury have been appointed assistant secretaries. Santosh Chanda will serve as cultural secretary, assisted by Dr Shrabani Sarkar. Suprabha Rajkumari has been appointed literary secretary, with Mridula Bhattacharjee as assistant.

Joy Roy will serve as publicity secretary, assisted by Raju Choudhury. Tanmoy Chakraborty, Biswajit Bhattacharjee, Nagendra Kishore Sinha and Tapash Nath are among the executive members.

The advisory committee includes MP Parimal Suklabaidya, MLA Dr Rajdeep Roy, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar Gupta, Gurucharan University Vice-Chancellor Professor Niranjan Roy, Yugashankha group chief Bijoy Krishna Nath, poet Atin Das, Dr Kasturi Home Chowdhury and Gosthalal Das, among others.

According to the organisers, book trusts and publishing houses from Kolkata, Guwahati, Agartala and Silchar will participate in this year’s fair.

The organising committee has appealed to book lovers and members of the literary and cultural fraternity across Silchar and Barak Valley to extend their support and participate in the 33rd Silchar Book Fair-2026 to make the event a success.
