SC dismisses plea seeking Preamble recitation in school assemblies

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking directions for schools to recite the Preamble to the Constitution during morning assemblies.A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Augustine George Masih and Sandeep Mehta dismissed the plea after hearing submissions from the petitioner’s counsel.

The counsel submitted that the petition sought directions to schools to include the recitation of the Preamble in morning assemblies. The plea also referred to Article 21A of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to education.The bench observed that the Preamble is already taught to students in Class 6 before dismissing the petition.

The plea was subsequently dismissed by the court.
