New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has challenged the Delhi Police’s decision to de-notify Jantar Mantar as a designated protest venue and sought permission to hold a peaceful demonstration at the site.

In a letter dated October 12, CJP co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka approached the Deputy Commissioner of Police at Parliament Street Police Station, requesting the authorities to allot a date and time for their proposed protest.

The letter, which bears a receipt stamp from the police station dated October 12, formally places the party’s request before the police authorities.

The CJP has also questioned the restrictions on public demonstrations in the national capital, with its move bringing renewed attention to the availability of designated spaces for peaceful protests in Delhi.

The party is seeking permission to organise its demonstration at Jantar Mantar, a site associated with public protests and demonstrations.
