SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has urged the Public Works Department (PWD) to remove Durga Puja pandals erected along public roads, citing traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters.
In a letter to the PWD Chief Engineer, the union called for stricter enforcement of rules governing temporary roadside structures. It expressed concern that the pandals were occupying valuable road space, making it difficult for motorists and pedestrians to move freely, particularly along narrow roads.
The KSU urged the department to take necessary action against such obstructions and ensure that public roads remain accessible to commuters during the festive season.
The union also called for steps to prevent similar problems in the future, stressing the need to balance festive celebrations with the smooth movement of traffic and public convenience.
