Imphal | The Election Commission of India (ECI) has approved the rationalisation of polling stations across Manipur ahead of the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls, scheduled with January 1, 2027, as the qualifying date.

The approval was conveyed through an ECI letter, No. 64/MR/2026-ERS-II, dated November 2, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Arun Kumar Sinha said. As part of the exercise, 38 existing polling stations have been bifurcated to improve voter management and ease logistical arrangements. With this adjustment, the total number of polling stations in Manipur has increased to 3,079.

The restructuring is intended to ensure that no polling station has more than 1,200 electors. In a separate measure, 39 polling stations housed in dilapidated or permanently demolished buildings have been shifted to safer and more suitable premises.

The rationalisation exercise has also resulted in the deletion of one polling station-55/2-Doltang under the 55-Tipaimukh (ST) Assembly Constituency. The electors enrolled at the station have been merged with the neighbouring 55/1-Chingmun polling station.

The revised polling station arrangements, including the updated locations, will be incorporated into the Draft Electoral Roll scheduled for publication on November 12, 2026, ahead of the 2027 Special Summary Revision.
