Silchar : In a landmark move aimed at integrating performing arts into mainstream education, Women’s College, Silchar and Bhabhikal Theater Group have officially signed a three-year agreement to promote theatre as a learning medium in the Barak Valley.
As per the agreement signed on Saturday, Women’s College will offer the necessary infrastructure for conducting theatre training sessions for interested students, while Bhabhikal Theater Group will provide teachers, instructors, and resource persons to facilitate the training. The MoU was formally signed by Dr. Sujit Tiwari, Principal of Women’s College, and Santanu Paul, Director of Bhabhikal.
Speaking on the occasion, Santanu Paul said, “This collaboration marks the beginning of a new era in theatre education in the region. Our aim is to inspire young minds to consider theatre not just as an art form, but also as a career.” He added that Bhabhikal has consistently conducted workshops across educational institutions in Barak Valley, which has led to growing interest among school and college administrators.
Dr. Tiwari expressed confidence in the initiative, stating that theatre as a co-curricular activity helps in building confidence, creativity, and communication skills among students. He lauded Bhabhikal’s longstanding dedication to theatre awareness and training in the region.
Bhabhikal’s continued engagement in theatre workshops has earned it a significant presence in the cultural landscape of Barak Valley. With this new partnership, both organisations hope to create a structured platform for students and aspiring theatre enthusiasts.
The duo urged the youth of the Valley to actively participate in the upcoming theatre workshops and experience the enriching journey of theatre. Mr. Paul also extended his gratitude to the college for entrusting Bhabhikal with the responsibility of nurturing the next generation of theatre artists.
