Hailakandi: A three-day summer camp aimed at promoting interest in science and mathematics among school students concluded on Tuesday at Srikrishna Sarda College, Hailakandi. The event was organised by the Hailakandi district branch of the Assam Science Society and drew participation from ten schools across the district.
The camp, which saw the enthusiastic participation of fifty students, featured a range of engaging activities including science experiments, mathematical puzzles, creative arts like leaf zoo and leaf printing, as well as sports and cultural events. The initiative aimed to blend learning with creativity and fun, encouraging students to explore science and mathematics beyond the classroom.
The valedictory session was graced by Dr. Ratan Kumar, Principal of SS College, who attended as the Chief Guest. Assistant Professors Dr. Golap Nandi, Dr. Debashish Guha Thakurta, Sukanya Choudhury, and Dr. Rupam Sen also attended the event as special guests, offering words of encouragement and appreciation for the participants.
The camp was supervised and coordinated by Lutfur Rahman Barbhuiya, Secretary of the Assam Science Society’s Hailakandi branch. Among the schools that stood out for their performance during the camp were Public Higher Secondary School, Saraswati Vidyaniketan, and Blue Flowers English School.
In addition to academic activities, the cultural segment of the camp included music, extempore speeches, poetry recitation, and storytelling. These sessions were conducted by Assam Science Society member and noted cultural organiser Shankar Choudhury, along with teacher Bijoyini Bhattacharjee, who also guided the students in various creative pursuits.
Three students were adjudged the best performers based on their participation in various competitions held during the camp. The winners were awarded prizes and certificates of appreciation at the concluding ceremony.
The event received a warm response from teachers, guardians, and students alike. Speaking at the closing function, Royal Higher Secondary School teacher Abul Kalam Laskar delivered the vote of thanks, praising the organisers for their commitment to fostering scientific temperament among young learners.
Organisers expressed hope that such educational camps would be held more frequently in the future, with many attendees agreeing that initiatives like this play a significant role in nurturing students’ curiosity, creativity, and analytical thinking.
