Honours Prof. Niranjan Roy

Silchar : The Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal-Assam Visvavidyalaya Samiti (BSM-AVVS) celebrated “Vyasa Purnima” with reverence and academic spirit at the Department of Physics, Assam University on Wednesday. The event was organized to pay homage to Maharshi Vyasadeva and to uphold the sanctity of the Guru-Shishya Parampara, observed across the country as Guru Purnima.
The celebration began with a floral tribute to Maharshi Vyasa, followed by the chanting of Dhyay Sloka and Dhyay Bakya by Sarada Jyoti Singha. Prof. Debotosh Chakraborty, Secretary of BSM-AVVS, delivered the welcome address.
In an enlightening keynote lecture, Prof. Shanti Pokhrel from the Department of Sanskrit elaborated on the spiritual and cultural significance of Vyasa Purnima in the Indian tradition.
One of the key highlights of the event was the felicitation of Prof. Niranjan Roy, Founder General Secretary of BSM-AVVS and Pranta President of BSM-Dakshin Assam Prant, who has recently been appointed as the Founder Vice-Chancellor of Gurucharan University, Silchar, by the Ministry of Education, Government of Assam. His contributions to the field of education and nation-building were lauded.
The presidential address was delivered by Prof. Piyush Pandey, emphasizing the continued relevance of India’s intellectual heritage and the guru-disciple tradition in shaping the nation’s moral and academic foundations.
Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das, Organizing Secretary, offered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all members of the Samiti for their wholehearted support in making the event a success.
The ceremony not only honoured ancient wisdom but also reinforced the role of educators in sustaining India’s cultural and educational legacy.
