Silchar: In a notable political development under the Rongpur Block of Udharbond, Bikram Kanti Purkayastha and Rabita Nunia were sworn in as Vice President and President, respectively, of the regional panchayat on Saturday.

Bikram Kanti Purkayastha represents the Dudhpatil-Durganagar Gaon Panchayat, which now falls under Rongpur Block following the recent delimitation. Rabita Nunia, on the other hand, has been elected from the Digar Kashipur GP.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by ten members of the regional panchayat, including Nripendra Singh, Manoj Bhar, Ruma Rabidas, and Debabrata Das.

In his address, Purkayastha extended his gratitude to key political figures who supported him, including Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha, Lok Sabha MP Parimal Suklabaidya, Udharbond MLA Mihir Kanti Shome, BJP Cachar district president Rupam Saha, district vice president Amiyo Kanti Das, and Kashipur BJP Mandal Prabhari Nabarun Chakraborty.

He pledged to work with sincerity and dedication for the overall development of the region, with a focus on community welfare and inclusive progress.
