Silchar: In a moment of pride for Barak Valley and the entire state of Assam, newly elected Rajya Sabha Member Kanad Purkayastha took his oath in Sanskrit on Monday.
Purkayastha, the son of Kabindra Purkayastha a stalwart of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and one of its founding figures in Northeast India has drawn widespread appreciation for choosing Sanskrit, reflecting a deep reverence for India’s civilizational values.
Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty congratulated the new MP and lauded the gesture. “Kanad Purkayastha, an honourable son of Barak Valley and the worthy heir to Kabindra Purkayastha’s legacy, has brought great honour to our region by taking the oath in Sanskrit. It is a proud day for all of us.”
Wishing him well in his parliamentary journey, MLA Chakraborty added, “I pray to the Almighty for his continued success. His presence in the Rajya Sabha will undoubtedly amplify the voice of Barak Valley and Assam on the national stage.”
The MLA further remarked that Purkayastha’s Sanskrit oath was not only a symbolic nod to India’s enduring traditions but also a powerful statement of Barak Valley’s rising prominence in national politics.
