Silchar: The Silchar District Congress Committee marked the 83rd birth anniversary of All India Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge with solemnity and celebration on Monday. The event took place at the district Congress office, Indira Bhavan, where party leaders and workers gathered to cut a cake and extend their wishes for Kharge’s good health and long life.

The programme also paid tribute to Umesh Chandra Banerjee, the first President of the Indian National Congress, on his 119th death anniversary. Party members offered floral tributes and garlands at his portrait in remembrance of his pioneering role in the national movement.

Addressing the gathering, District Congress President Sajal Kumar Acharjee spoke on the remarkable life and legacy of Umesh Chandra Banerjee, underlining his significant contributions to the Congress movement and India’s freedom struggle.

The event was attended by senior Congress leaders including Simanta Bhattacharjee, Sujan Dutta, Hemanta Singh, along with other office bearers and party workers from the district.
