A Teacher’s Commitment to Transforming Education

As we mark the 5th anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, it is a moment of reflection, celebration, and renewed commitment for all stakeholders in the education system—especially teachers, who are at the heart of this transformative journey.
NEP 2020 is not just a policy document; it is a visionary roadmap aimed at overhauling India’s education system to make it more holistic, flexible, multidisciplinary, and aligned with the needs of the 21st century. As a teacher in the school education sector, I feel both proud and responsible to be part of this historic shift.
Over the past five years, I have worked with sincere dedication to integrate the core values of NEP into my teaching practices. Emphasis has been laid on foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), experiential learning, and use of low-cost teaching aids that encourage joyful, concept-based learning rather than rote memorization. I have also promoted mother tongue-based early education wherever feasible, and encouraged multilingualism in classroom discussions to help children express themselves freely.
A major focus area has been the integration of technology in education, especially after the pandemic exposed digital gaps. I’ve been actively involved in capacity-building programs and digital literacy initiatives for both students and fellow teachers, ensuring that no child is left behind in this new era of digital learning.
Equally important has been the inclusion of socio-emotional learning, vocational training, and life skills in classroom interactions, helping students become not only academically capable but also emotionally strong and socially aware.
The policy’s emphasis on flexibility, critical thinking, and holistic development is already showing results. Children are now more curious, interactive, and engaged in learning. As a teacher, the shift from a textbook-based system to a learner-centric environment has been both challenging and deeply rewarding.
On this 5th anniversary of NEP 2020, I reaffirm my commitment to its implementation—not just as a mandate, but as a mission to build a stronger, smarter, and more inclusive India. The road ahead requires collective effort, but with continuous professional development, innovation, and support, we will shape a future where education truly becomes the foundation of national transformation.
