Silchar: The 11th International Day of Yoga was observed on Saturday at the de-addiction and rehabilitation centre run by the Asha (A Hope) Foundation, located at Tophkhana Road, Masimpur in Silchar. Continuing its tradition of promoting holistic healing, the foundation once again highlighted the therapeutic value of yoga in addiction recovery.
The session, conducted by yoga instructor Sanjay Dev, focused on the role of yoga in restoring physical and mental balance disrupted by substance abuse. Addressing the inmates undergoing treatment at the centre, Dev explained how regular yoga practice can aid in recovery by fostering body awareness, improving breath control, and enhancing mental clarity.
“Yoga helps restore balance in the brain and body something often lost due to addiction. Beyond physical benefits, yoga nurtures self-awareness, enabling individuals to recognise their emotions, take ownership of their actions, and ultimately regain control of their lives,” Dev said. He also noted that the inward journey yoga encourages can lead to greater self-reliance and confidence among recovering individuals.
The event was attended by president Sajal Dev, secretary Sanjeev Dev, along with Niranjan Das, Nidhu Dev, Champak Poddar, Abhijit Chakraborty, Pintu Das, and Rahul Chanda, among others. The organisers reiterated their commitment to integrating yoga into the rehabilitation process to support long-term recovery and emotional well-being.
