The speakers said Khudiram’s ideals remain relevant even decades after independence

Silchar: The 137th birth anniversary of Shaheed Khudiram Bose was marked in Silchar on Wednesday with a solemn remembrance ceremony at the martyr’s statue in the town. The event was organised by the Khudiram Smriti Raksha Committee along with the district committees of AIDSO, AIDYO, AIMSS, Komsomol, and local citizens.
The programme began with floral tributes to the revolutionary freedom fighter. Representatives of various organisations placed wreaths and flowers at the statue. The first offering was made by Nakul Ranjan Pal, secretary of the Khudiram Smriti Raksha Committee, followed by chief guest Prof Smriti Paul.
Others who paid homage included Bhabatosh Chakraborty, district secretary of SUCI(C); Anjan Chand, secretary of the Sonai–Dholai regional committee; Dulali Ganguly, secretary of the Silchar regional committee; Khadeja Begum Laskar (AIMSS); Paritosh Bhattacharjee (AIDYO district secretary); Pallab Bhattacharjee (AIDSO district vice president); and Arup Malakar, district convener of Komsomol, along with several other participants.
Speaking at the gathering, Nakul Ranjan Paul and guest speaker Prof Smriti Paul reflected on Khudiram’s revolutionary spirit, fearless sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to India’s freedom struggle. They noted that Khudiram is not merely a historical figure but a lasting symbol of courage for future generations.
The speakers said Khudiram’s ideals remain relevant even decades after independence. They stressed the need to introduce young people to his life and values to inspire them to stand against injustice and contribute to nation-building.
Students from several city schools also attended the event. The programme concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to the values upheld by Shaheed Khudiram Bose.
