13th Inter-College Cricket Tournament begins at Assam University with commanding wins

The Assam University Sports Board has lined up matches throughout the week, with all games scheduled at the University Cricket Grounds

Silchar: The 13th Inter-College Cricket Tournament got underway on Sunday, 16 November 2025, at the Assam University Cricket Grounds with an energetic start and two one-sided matches that set the tone for a competitive week ahead. The tournament is being organised by the Assam University Sports Board.

The opening ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, who formally inaugurated the event. He was joined by Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das, director (in-charge), Assam University Sports Board, Dr. Ajita Tiwari, Dr. Lalzo S. Thangzom, Niranjan Das, and Dr. Siddhartha Sarma, Assistant Director of the Sports Board. Students, fans and supporters were present in large numbers to encourage the teams.

The host team, Assam University, took the field in the first match against Nehru College. Backed by a strong home crowd, they delivered a commanding all-round performance and defeated Nehru College by 111 runs, marking one of the day’s biggest victories and establishing themselves early as a title contender.

The second match featured Cachar College against MHCM Science College. Cachar College maintained control throughout the game and secured a comfortable 81-run win, showcasing depth in both batting and bowling.

With two decisive results on the opening day, the tournament has begun on a high note, reflecting the competitive spirit among the participating colleges. The Assam University Sports Board has lined up matches throughout the week, with all games scheduled at the University Cricket Grounds.
