Tripura: West Police Station officers arrested two alleged drug peddlers with heroin during a late night raid near Pragati School on Wednesday. The arrests created panic and buzz in the area.

The accused have been identified as Bunty Nayek and Sujit Roy. Both are residents of Radhanagar. Police said the duo had been active in the illegal drug trade in and around the Pragati School area for a long time.

Acting on a tip-off, police kept surveillance and launched the operation late at night. During the raid, the two suspects were detained and a significant quantity of heroin was recovered from their possession. The seized drugs are estimated to be worth over Rs 1 lakh in the local market.

According to police sources, the accused mainly targeted local youth and sold heroin and other narcotics. The recovered drugs have been confiscated.

Officer-in-Charge of West Police Station, Rana Chatterjee, said the interrogation of the accused has already given important leads about a wider drug network. He said police are hopeful that more arrests will be made soon as the investigation continues to trace the supply chain and distribution areas.

On Thursday, the accused were produced before a court, and police sought their remand for further questioning. Authorities said the investigation has been intensified and strict action will continue as part of the ongoing anti-narcotics drive.
