Silchar: The 147 Battalion of CRPF in Silchar Kashipur seized 29 bags of illegal poppy seeds from a Bolero container on Tuesday, acting on a confidential tip-off. The vehicle, bearing registration number SS-11FC-1420, was heading toward Guwahati when it was intercepted around 11 am at the Bharat Petroleum pump in Japirbond Part II during a refuelling halt.

CRPF personnel detained two youths on the spot and recovered the contraband hidden inside the container. The arrested individuals have been identified as Khairul Islam Laskar of Baga Bazar, Jamalpur in Dhalai, and Asifur Rahman Barbhuiya.

The vehicle was later taken to the Barkhola toll gate, where Udarband and Barkhola police carried out a joint operation to formally seize the entire consignment along with the driver. Authorities said regular checks are being conducted along the Silchar–Guwahati route to curb illegal transportation of poppy seeds.

Police have launched a full investigation and are searching for others linked to the network. Local residents have welcomed the operation and called for strict action against the trade. Police officials said stronger measures will be enforced to prevent such activities and urged citizens to follow the law.
