Silchar: The 61st Kali Puja, organized by the Bengali Forward Club, was held with deep devotion and grandeur at the historic Ambikeshwar Shiv Temple in Ambicapatty, Silchar, on Monday evening and continued late into the night.

Following traditional rituals and customs, the festival drew devotees who participated with enthusiasm and reverence. This year’s celebration stood out as it was entirely led and managed by women. From the decoration of the pandal to the conduct of the rituals, care for devotees, and cultural presentations, women played an active and central role, setting a notable example for the local community.

Officials of the Bengali Forward Club highlighted that since its inception, the club has actively contributed to religious and social activities. They have maintained the tradition of organizing the Kali Puja in a pure, sattvic manner for over six decades. Every year, devotees from Silchar and neighboring areas gather to offer prayers through night-long bhajans, rituals, and recitations dedicated to Goddess Mahakali.

On Tuesday afternoon, during the second day of the Puja, mahaprasad was distributed among all devotees and visitors. Long queues extended beyond the temple premises as people gathered to receive the sacred offering. The organizers expressed satisfaction that this year’s celebration was conducted peacefully and with proper adherence to religious traditions.

During the festival, the temple precincts were illuminated with night-long lights and accompanied by devotional music, creating a vibrant and spiritual atmosphere. Devotees and visitors from near and far shared in the joy of the occasion.

Prominent attendees included the Bengali Forward Club’s chief advisor Nihar Ranjan Paul, president Monotosh Paul, general secretary Siddharth Banik, and active members Krishna Dev, Jaya Kar, Rajlakshmi Kar, Soma Dev, Tarani Gupta, and Reshmi Dev. They collectively offered their respects to Goddess Mahakali and prayed for the welfare of society.

According to club members, promoting religious harmony, unity, and human values remains the core purpose of this Puja. They expressed optimism that the club will continue to play an active role in social service and cultural activities in the future.
