Skill Development Drive Aims to Empower Rural Youth Across North East

Halflong : In a significant push for rural skill development, the National Academy of RUDSETI (North East Region) successfully conducted a four-day Domain Skill Trainers (DST) Certification Programme at SBI RSETI Halflong, Dima Hasao, from May 20 to 23, 2025.

A total of 66 trainers were certified across 78 job roles, enhancing their capacity to deliver high-quality vocational training to youth in rural and semi-urban areas. The programme focused on improving domain-specific knowledge and instructional abilities to build a stronger ecosystem of rural entrepreneurship and employability.

Participants from a wide range of sectors such as Agriculture, Apparel, Handloom & Handicrafts, Food Processing, Electrical, IT, and Tourism & Hospitality took part in the intensive training.

The initiative is aimed at creating a qualified cadre of trainers who will mentor youth and support them in launching their own ventures, thereby reducing unemployment and migration from rural areas.

The programme combined classroom learning with sectoral insights and skill-based assessments to ensure practical knowledge transfer.The event was attended by several key dignitaries from the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM), including Nabajit Bharali (State Project Manager – Skill & Placement), Md Firdaus Mohammed (Project Manager – Skill & Placement), and Kim Hengna (District Project Manager, Halflong).

Also present were Dr. Chaitan Kumar, North East Regional Controller for RSETIs; Rajkumar Das, Director, SBI RSETI Halflong; and Nirmalendu Dhar, Lead District Manager.

The dignitaries commended the participants and encouraged them to become the “Dronacharyas of the North East,” guiding and empowering the next generation of rural entrepreneurs.

Expert-led sessions formed a core part of the programme. Technical training and evaluations were conducted by subject specialists and industry professionals including Parkey Gogoi and Baosring Nunisa (KVK Halflong), Elle Hmar (Beauty & Wellness), Sonali Thaosen (Apparel), Dr. Issory Joisi (Electrical & Electronics), and senior RSETI faculty members Rupali Thaosen and Surjo Nunisa.

These sessions not only enhanced the trainers’ technical competencies but also introduced modern training methodologies suited for rural learners.

The programme concluded with a plantation drive led by KVK scientists, symbolizing a commitment to sustainable growth and environmental responsibility.

Speaking on the occasion, Shahed Choudhury, Senior Faculty Member of  RSETI Cachar, highlighted the long-term impact of such certification programmes. He emphasized that building a robust network of skilled trainers is key to empowering rural youth and ensuring the success of self-employment and enterprise initiatives across the region.
