Silchar: The Asom Yuba Parishad (AYP), youth wing of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), has called for the verification of academic credentials submitted by candidates contesting the upcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation elections.

On Monday, a delegation led by AYP central secretary Nekbub Hussain Laskar submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, urging authorities to scrutinise graduate-level degrees of nominees. The letter was also addressed to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister Atul Bora, State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar, and Acting Commissioner S. Singh.

“We’ve received several complaints regarding the authenticity of submitted qualifications. It’s vital for electoral transparency that these degrees are verified promptly,” Laskar told reporters.

Other members in the delegation included Chittaranjan Singh, Abdul Tahir Choudhury, Deep Bhattacharjee, Ragubir Singh, and Azmir Laskar.
