Launches Rs 800-crore infrastructure & security projects

Guwahati : Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Assam on Monday for a day-long tour to inaugurate key infrastructure, security and cultural projects and address public programmes across the state.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP Assam in-charge Baijayant Panda, state BJP president Dilip Saikia and senior officials received Shah at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.

Soon after his arrival, Shah flew by helicopter to Borduwa in Nagaon district to inaugurate the Rs 227-crore redevelopment of Batadrava Than, the birthplace of Vaishnavite reformer Srimanta Sankardeva. He is also scheduled to address a public gathering at the historic site.

The Home Minister will later return to Guwahati to pay tributes at the Swahid Smarak Kshetra, recently constructed to honour martyrs of the Assam Movement against illegal infiltration.

During the visit, Shah will inaugurate the new Guwahati Police Commissionerate building, built at a cost of Rs 11 crore, along with the Rs 189-crore Integrated Command and Control System. The ICCS will provide real-time surveillance through more than 2,000 CCTV cameras to strengthen city-level security and emergency response.

Shah will also inaugurate the Rs 291-crore Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex in Guwahati, a modern auditorium with a seating capacity of about 5,000, officials said.
