Silchar: The Asom Yuva Parishad (AYP) on Sunday evening held a solemn tribute meeting in Silchar to mark one month since the untimely demise of Assam’s celebrated singer, filmmaker, and socially conscious icon Zubeen Garg.

The programme, held at the party’s Trunk Road office, began with members offering floral tributes and lighting lamps before the late artist’s portrait in his memory.

Among those present were AYP central secretary Nekbub Hussain Laskar, district president Dipan Bhattacharjee, executive secretaries Rupesh Sinha, Pradip Sinha, Soumen Das, and Bijoy Nandi, district secretary Chittaranjan Singh, vice presidents Azmir Hussain Laskar and Shahin Laskar, publicity secretary Bivek Singh, Raja Chakraborty, and others. The event was conducted by district secretaries Maniton Singha and Sujit Sharma.

Speaking on the occasion, Nekbub Hussain Laskar said Zubeen Garg’s passing had left a deep void in Assam’s cultural and political life. “He was more than a singer—he was an emotion and an inspiration. His voice, compassion, and humanity will remain immortal,” he said. Laskar also urged the government to ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Garg’s sudden death.

District president Dipan Bhattacharjee remembered the late artist as a unifying force for the Northeast. “His songs connected people across communities and boundaries,” he said.

The gathering concluded with a minute of silence in memory of Zubeen Garg. Participants prayed for eternal peace to his soul and resolved to carry forward his message of love, unity, and humanism.
