Silchar: The long-awaited reinstallation of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s statue at Rangirkhari Rotary will take place on Sunday afternoon. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will unveil the rebuilt statue at 3 pm by pressing a remote switch, in the presence of residents, dignitaries and public representatives.
The project has been led by the Silchar Netaji Murti Nabanirman O Sthapana Committee, with MLA Dipayan Chakraborty as convener. The committee has redesigned the rotary and decorated the surroundings with lights. Speaking at a press meet on Saturday, Chakraborty said the day would be one of pride for Silchar and the entire Barak Valley.
The programme will feature a souvenir release, NCC march past, guard of honour, cultural presentations and an inaugural address. Later, at 4:45 pm, the Chief Minister will also unveil a statue of martyr Mangal Pandey at Ghungoor, Meherpur.
Around 150 volunteers will assist with the arrangements, while ministers, MPs and MLAs from across Barak Valley are expected to attend. Committee members Rudra Narayan Gupta, Uttam Kumar Saha, Debojyoti Swami, Rumlee Bhattacharjee and several others were present at the briefing.
