HAFLONG : Traffic movement along the crucial Haflong–Silchar stretch of National Highway-27 has come to a grinding halt following multiple landslides triggered by continuous rainfall in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.

A fresh landslide near the Lumding Bypass on Monday worsened the situation, leaving scores of heavy vehicles stranded for days.  The affected stretch, which also functions as NH-6 in certain sections, serves as a vital lifeline between Guwahati, Silchar, and Agartala.

The prolonged disruption has severely impacted the transport of essential goods and passenger movement to southern Assam and beyond, sparking serious concerns over supply chain stability and regional connectivity.

Truckers and transporters heading to the Barak Valley have been stuck on either side of the highway, with no clear indication of when traffic will resume. The economic ripple effects are already being felt across the region, particularly in Dima Hasao and Barak Valley districts.

Authorities have urged commuters to avoid the route and said that restoration efforts will begin once the weather clears and the terrain is declared safe.
