GUWAHATI : Assam is gearing up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed two-day visit beginning December 20, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chairing a high-level review meeting on Tuesday to assess arrangements for major events planned in Guwahati and Namrup.
Sarma said the visit is poised to usher in “a new wave of development” for the state. In a post on X, he wrote: “Assam is all set to welcome Adarniya Shri @narendramodi ji on 20th December as he will herald a new wave of development in the state. Reviewed preparations for his welcome and the marquee events which will take place during the visit.”
Modi’s itinerary includes the inauguration of the new terminal building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and the unveiling of a statue of Assam’s first Chief Minister, Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, at Borjhar. A public meeting is also scheduled in Guwahati.
At Namrup, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a brownfield ammonia-urea complex with an annual production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes, followed by a public address.
The Chief Minister reviewed logistical and security plans for both venues, directing senior officials to ensure seamless execution of the programmes. The meeting was attended by Minister of Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises Bimal Bora, BJP MLA Taranga Gogoi, district commissioners of Kamrup and Dibrugarh, and Assam Valley Fertilizer & Chemical Company Ltd. MD S.P. Mahanta, who joined virtually. Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, DGP Harmeet Singh and other senior officials were also present.
