Agartala: Assam Rifles have delivered a major blow to drug networks in Tripura by destroying illegal ganja plantations worth around Rs 27 crore in a swift anti-narcotics operation.
The action was carried out near the general areas of Kamalnagar and Bijoy Nagar, barely hours after Deputy Inspector General Brigadier Nishant Chandel issued a strong warning against the growing drug threat in the region.
This operation comes soon after the destruction of ganja cultivation worth Rs 14.5 crore at Boxanagar. With both actions combined, the total value of narcotics neutralised in one operational cycle has reached Rs 41.5 crore.
Earlier, while speaking at the PIB Bartalap programme, Brigadier Chandel had said that the fight against drugs needs alertness, responsibility, and joint effort. He stressed that security forces must take the lead, while society must protect the youth from falling into the trap of narcotics.
Assam Rifles troops acted quickly on intelligence inputs and uprooted large stretches of illegal cannabis cultivation. The near back-to-back operations showed strong coordination and readiness on the ground.
Officials said the actions reflect a clear zero-tolerance policy towards drug cultivation and trafficking. Tripura has been repeatedly targeted by drug syndicates for illegal ganja farming, but sustained pressure from Assam Rifles is shrinking their space to operate.
With firm leadership, community outreach, and strong field action, Assam Rifles have sent a clear message that the campaign against drugs will continue without pause.
