Silchar: Dr. Aditi Nath, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work at Assam University, has been honoured by the Government of Assam for her exemplary contributions to disaster management, marking a proud moment for the university and the state’s academic community.

At a felicitation ceremony held on Thursday at Hotel Vivanta, Guwahati, Dr. Nath was recognised by Keshab Mahanta, Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management, Government of Assam. She was commended for her role as a mentor in the 2024 Assam Youth Internship Programme (AYIP), a state initiative aimed at engaging young people in disaster preparedness and community resilience.

Her expertise and continued involvement in the field have also led to Assam University being selected as part of a 10-member State Expert Committee on Disaster Management, constituted by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) under the leadership of CEO Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, IAS.

Adding to this series of distinctions, Assam University has achieved national recognition through its induction into the India Universities and Institutions Network for Disaster Risk Reduction (IUINDRR-NIDM). The membership, conferred by the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, was formally communicated on May 13, 2025.

These recognitions underline Dr. Nath’s commitment to advancing disaster risk reduction and demonstrate Assam University’s growing engagement in bridging research, policy, and practice in the field of disaster management.

Dr. Nath’s contributions and the university’s new affiliations position Assam University as a key academic partner in India’s broader efforts toward disaster resilience and sustainable development.
