Silchar: In a notable recognition for higher education in Northeast India, Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, Silchar, has been nominated to the Executive Committee of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) for a three-year term.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) formally communicated the nomination through a letter dated October 10, 2025. Established in 1994 as an autonomous Inter-University Centre under the UGC, NAAC is India’s premier body responsible for assessing and accrediting higher education institutions. The council functions through its General Council, led by the UGC Chairman, and an Executive Committee.

According to the UGC letter, Prof. Pant was nominated under the category of “Three Vice-Chancellors of Universities,” ensuring a regional perspective from the Northeast in national higher education policymaking. The appointment is being seen as a testament to his leadership and the growing role of institutions from the region in shaping academic standards across the country.

As a member of the Executive Committee, Prof. Pant will contribute to decisions on academic quality, accreditation frameworks, and strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing university standards nationwide.
