Silchar: As the Silchar Municipal Corporation elections draw nearer likely to be held in September political activity is heating up across various wards. In a notable show of support, a special interactive meeting was held on Monday at Uttargram in Ward No. 17, Ramnagar, to back BJP’s probable councillor candidate, Atabur Rahman Laskar.

Atabur Rahman, a respected social worker and Secretary of the Minority Morcha, Assam State BJP, has emerged as a strong contender from the newly delimited ward. The gathering saw active participation from community members and residents, many of whom lauded his consistent service and dedication to public welfare. The meeting ended with a unanimous show of support for his candidature in the upcoming municipal polls.

Speaking to the media, Laskar confirmed his intention to contest the election from Ward No. 17 on a BJP ticket. “The objective of this meeting was to seek the opinions, blessings, and support of the people,” he said. “I am humbled and grateful for the overwhelming encouragement from the community.”

When asked about reports of close associates also eyeing a run in the election, Laskar responded diplomatically: “Democracy gives everyone the right to contest. I wish all aspirants the very best. It is the people who will ultimately decide who is best suited to represent them.” He further added, “Elections and personal relationships should remain separate. I will never let electoral rivalry affect my personal bonds.”
