Silchar: An elderly widow in Uttar Krishnapur, Part I, Nagatilla, narrowly escaped an illegal takeover of her property on Friday, thanks to prompt intervention by local residents and the police. Monirun Nessa Mazumder alleged that Nur Uddin Laskar, accompanied by a group of men, attempted to seize her home, situated on an eight-katha plot.
According to the family, the incident began on the night of September 30, around 10:30 pm, when Nur Uddin Laskar and his associates forcibly opened the house gate and demanded that the occupants vacate the premises. When the family resisted, they were allegedly dragged out and threatened with violence.
The situation escalated on Friday afternoon when Nur Uddin reportedly brought some 50 labourers to demolish the house. Locals promptly alerted the Rangirkhari police, who, with the support of the community, intervened and halted the demolition.
Following the episode, Iqbal Hussain Mazumder, son of Monirun Nessa Mazumder, filed a formal complaint at Rangirkhari Police Station against Nur Uddin Laskar and Parvez Laskar. The dispute over the land between the two parties has been long-standing, with similar confrontations reported in the past. Police are continuing their investigation and have called for swift legal action to prevent further incidents.
