Kabuganj: The Red Ribbon Club of Janata College, Kabuganj organized a series of programmes in response to government initiatives to create awareness especially in the students’ community on SITI / HIV / AIDS.
The students participated in making paintings on the concerned theme, forming human chain and speech competition. They delivered speeches on the different issues causing such infections and highlighting healthy practices for a better life.
The programme was held on 13th of September 2025 on the college campus. Sabiddha Nath and Tanuj Singha of HS 1st Year and Raj Sinha of HS 2nd year delivered speech while a few students of HS 1st Year were collectively engaged in making paintings.
Moreover Sabiddha Nath and Tanuj Singha of class 11 also participated in the Zonal Round of Red Ribbon School Quiz held online on 2nd and 3rd September 2025 and secured 4th position. An awareness programme on the theme was held at 12 noon onwards on 19th September 2025 in the Auditorium of the college where Pallav Bora, Counsellor of Dholai Hospital graced the occasion as the resource person.
Almost 100 students were present in the programme and made the session an interactive one. He spoke on the practical issues pertaining to such infections, especially regarding the Dholai constituency.
He categorically pointed out the current number of patients with HIV and AIDS within the constituency, and sensitized the students regarding the causes of the virus, life style approaches regarding it, preventive measures and Govt. support systems regarding such infections.
The highlight of the speech was the interactive session between Bora and the students, where the students asked quite a few pertinent questions, which Bora answered with practical and holistic examples.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Sudipta Khersa, HOD, Bengali. Both the programmes were supervised and coordinated by the Coordinator of the Red Ribbon Club, Dr. Munni Deb Mazumder, HoD, English, and was assisted by the various faculty members of the college and Mithu Nath, a non teaching assistant of the college.
