SILCHAR : Just like the collapsed Harang Bridge in Bhanga, the Harang Bridge at Baburbazar on the Silchar-Jaintia Road is now extremely dangerous. Despite a 40-ton weight limit, overloaded trucks with 14–16 wheels are using it daily, severely damaging the structure.

Previously, Katigorah’s Gamon Bridge and Bhanga’s Harang Bridge collapsed under similar conditions. With limited alternative routes, this bridge is vital for connecting Barak Valley to Guwahati, Tripura, Mizoram, and Manipur.

Locals have urged the Chief Minister and Cachar administration to intervene and take strict action against overloaded trucks to prevent a major disaster and total transport disruption.
