Silchar: The city will host the first-ever Barak Carnival 2025 on December 21. The event, organised by Barak Events, a group formed earlier this year, will be held at Gandhi Mela Ground from 2 pm to 10 pm.

Announcing the plan at a press meet at the Dasharupak office in Shillongpatty on Friday, Barak Events president Sudip Sinha said the carnival is meant to highlight the cultural breadth of the Northeast. He said Silchar stands just after Guwahati in terms of cultural activity, and the team wants to build a platform where music, art and community engagement come together. He added that such festivals help local businesses and thanked Titan for coming on board as title sponsor.

Calling it a passion-led effort, Sinha pointed to the Chief Minister’s recent remarks on the rise of the state’s concert economy and said the carnival fits that momentum. Ten communities will participate. Food stalls, jewellery counters and other attractions will run through the day, followed by five major musical acts in the evening.

The line-up features Fifth Note, Assam’s Suzonn, Shillong’s Leo Boys, Silchar’s Dichromatix and Vedika Sinha. Rotaract and Leo Clubs, among others, will partner in organising the event. The Silchar Municipal Corporation will also provide support.

Gates will open at 12.30 pm, with the inaugural ceremony scheduled for 1.30 pm. About twenty stalls will be set up at the ground.

More than fifty volunteers will be deployed, and a Guwahati-based security agency has been contracted for crowd management. Alcohol will not be permitted, and visitors will not be allowed to bring food or beverages from outside.

Treasurer Rajarshi Sinha, along with Bablu Sinha, Pratik Sinha, Rahul Sinha and Pankaj Kanti Sinha, attended the press meet. Barak Events secretary Akashneel Chakraborty is overseeing the organisational work.
