Silchar: The Silchar-based theatre group Bhabikal has wrapped up a 24-day internship programme for college students, designed to complement their undergraduate studies. The concluding ceremony on Sunday marked the end of the course, with certificates handed over to participants.

Dr. Apratim Nag, Principal of Cachar College, attended the event as chief guest. Among the special guests were Prof. Sudip Kumar Das, Head of the Bengali Department at Cachar College; playwright and Bartalipi editor, Arijit Aditya; and noted theatre actor Subrata Roy (Sambhu).

The gathering was also addressed by Prof. Debashish Bhattacharjee, Head of the Bengali Department at Assam University; Ranjan Das, President of Bhabikal; and director Santanu Paul.

The internship offered hands-on experience in various aspects of theatre, along with sessions on media studies, personality development, and human resource skills. Besides Prof. Bhattacharjee and Santanu Paul, classes were conducted by Uttam Kumar Saha and Sayantani Pal. The programme, which began on October 7, ran for nearly a month.

Although Bhabikal has organized numerous theatre workshops over the years, this was the first time it developed a formal curriculum aimed at college students. Speaking at the closing event, Santanu Paul attributed the success of the programme to the active involvement of Bhabikal’s members and office-bearers, noting that such collaborations between academics and theatre can help bridge classroom learning with creative practice.
