Silchar: The youth theatre workshop organized by Bhabikal has witnessed an enthusiastic response this year, reaffirming its growing influence as a hub for nurturing young theatre talent in the region.

The 10-day workshop, which began on July 12 at Gurucharan College, had to be shifted from Hall No. 2 to Link Road due to an unexpected surge in the number of participants.

Under the leadership of camp director Santanu Paul, the workshop features training sessions conducted by eminent theatre practitioners, including Prof. Debashish Bhattacharjee from Assam University’s Bengali Department, Sayantani Paul (a Mumbai University Theatre postgraduate), and Sandipa Das, faculty member in Mass Communication at Gurucharan College. NSD alumna Adrija Dasgupta joined the team from Kolkata on the third day to enhance the learning experience.

At the inauguration, Bhabikal president Ranjan Das emphasized the value of formal theatre education, noting the difference between spontaneous performance and trained expression. Prof. Bhattacharjee added that theatre plays a vital role in personality development.

Pallab Bhattacharjee, the workshop coordinator, welcomed participants and shared his own journey, crediting Bhabikal workshops for shaping his communication skills. The event was graced by cultural personalities including Uttam Kumar Saha, Subrata Roy, and Shibam Das.

The workshop will conclude on July 21 with a certificate distribution ceremony. Participants are also being trained for a stage production, offering a hands-on experience in theatrical performance.

Expressing satisfaction, director Santanu Paul remarked, “We are working with a group of highly motivated and talented young individuals. Their energy and commitment are truly encouraging.”
