Guwahati: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday took a swipe at Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi through a sarcastic social media post on Republic Day, claiming that he was “missing” on the national occasion.
In the post, BJP Assam Pradesh said the people of the state were unable to locate the Congress leader on January 26 and questioned his absence from Republic Day celebrations. The post added that while Gogoi is not obliged to observe Republic Day, “just one photo of him unfurling the National Flag would be enough.”
In a pointed political jibe, the BJP Assam unit also tagged the Pakistan High Commission in the post, giving it a sharp edge and triggering reactions online. The post quickly drew attention on social media, with supporters and critics trading barbs. The Congress, however, did not immediately respond to the BJP’s claim or the remark made in the post.
The exchange comes amid ongoing political tension between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress in Assam, where national events and symbolism have often become part of sharp political messaging.
